Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma from the department of English literature. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, Mitchell was hired by WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). After two years, she joined NBC News as a Washington correspondent. She began to cover the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent in 1988. In 1992, she was made chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell was a guest as a guest on TV news show Meet the Press as a host and panelist. Mitchell was on an audience for the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell received the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awarded Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to the protection for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable stories over time, including fiscal reform, the budget as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell traveled extensively along with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
